At early stages of reading and pronunciation instruction, the Beginning Level of Phonics Bingo Sound/Spelling Picture Board Games can provide not only a welcome change of pace but also reinforcement, review, and anchoring of sound-and-letter patterns taught or learned in other ways. The package contains eight different games, eight sheets of Matching or Caller Cards, and ten different Bingo or Lotto Grids for each game. Four of the games target initial or final consonant sounds in one-syllable words. The other half focus on vowel sounds and spellings.Each Beginning Grid displays 16 contrasting words under their boxed drawings--in a sequence that differs from that on the other nine Grids for the same Game. Items of the eight Games “cover” most common, regular vowel and consonant sounds and spellings of the English language. Reference charts of the relevant sound-symbol correlations appear at the bottom of each page. These can be used for quick answers to players' questions and further phonics learning.
As described in the associated Beginning-Level Activity & Idea Book, preparation and reinforcement ideas, reproducible worksheets and “tests,” and reference lists—among other offerings—will enhance use of the game materials. A "mini-course" in phonics patterns and principles appropriate for beginning-level instruction will help teachers and tutors to connect pedagogy with "competitive" or cooperative fun.
