Begun in the 1980's with just one author and just one editor, Authors & Editors had as its original goal service to commercial publishers of materials in English as a Second Language. We provided expertise, experience, hard work, and creativity in materials and methods--offering what was likely to work best for educational booksellers and their potential customers.
In the present millennium Authors & Editors still has just one author and just one editor. It also has just one product-production director--to work with one printer service. There's one marketing organizer to work with a fluctuating bevy of assistants and advisers. There's one so-called "technician." There's one office worker and a one-person order department. There's one helpful relative. Obviously, one person fulfills far more than one function at any one time.
As we aged and "retired" from our full-time language-teaching, teacher-training, social work, and care-taking jobs--and as the employment economy became less and less welcoming, we began focusing our efforts on delivering value by communicating with and learning from teachers and students that love language for their own reasons. In this regard--sometimes kicking and screaming--we've been engaging in, feeling the frustrations of, and trying to become comfortable--and eventually, effective--in the online world of technology and cyberspace, We hope to help instill the excitement we feel about the importance of language in "leaving the world a better place" in others. We're fervently eager to hear from anyone and everyone wanting to join us in passing on an abundant "language legacy" during and after our time.
