phonicSpelling WORKBOOK, Practical EveryDay Spelling, 126-Page Student Text

Practical Everyday Spelling Workbook reviews the Basic material of the previous text before continuing word-level phonics/spelling instruction at a "higher level." In addition to the most common spellings for each sound, it introduces, practices, and tests mastery of less frequent, unusual, and exceptional letter combinations in one-syllable vocabulary.  Lessons entitled "Homophones," "Compound Words," "Multi-Syllable Words," Vowels Before -r," and "Silent Consonants" follow.  There are also 3 Review Lessons, 5 Progress Tests, and a Final Spelling Test.

PESW offers many sound vs. letter presentations with pictures, followed by "Compare & Contrast" and "Summary" exercises that review previous learning.  Other exercise types, which include lists, word puzzles, and amusing stories, add variety, surprise, and fun to language-learning progress.

Accompanying the Practical Everyday Workbook are three 90-minutes CD of all the audio material in the text. The corresponding PESW Instructors' Guide provides a Tapescript of these auditory exercises as well as the answers to all text activities and tests. It also offers creative ideas for in-class use of the text, remedial and supplementary activities, and ways to combine spelling instruction with whole-language skills lessons.  These provide not only a change of pace but challenging amusement that will engage and motivate even students that think they "know it all."

(The "lower-level" Basic text and its ancillary materials provide a foundation for the material in Practical Everyday Spelling Workbook.  Besides introducing many of the exercise/activity types and procedures, they thoroughly present, practice, and assess mastery of very common, regular spellings in one-syllable words.)
