RHYMING WORDS, Beginning Levels = Four 52-Card Decks A, B, C, D + 56-Page Activity & Idea Book
Apply the rules—and the motivation—of classic card gaming to teaching and learning the basic skills needed for language success. With Rhyming Words Card Decks, students acquire and strengthen their word-level reading, spelling, and vocabulary abilities. Each 52-card deck contains thirteen sets of four-of-a-kind (matching) rhyming words, often called "Word Families," displayed in pictures and print. The accompanying instruction booklet provides copies of and commentary on the contents of each deck, game procedures, ideas for effective word-level activities, and complete rhyming word lists.
At the Beginning Level, students work only with basic sound-symbol phonics relationships. They see only rimes (vowel and final consonant letters producing rhyming word endings) that look alike. Their 208 commonly used vocabulary items contain the most frequent spellings of 14 English vowel sounds, most in the CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) pattern taught at the onset of most phonics and spelling instruction.

Rhyming Words Beginning Level Deck A (-at to -ug)
(Both the Intermediate Levels [ISBN 978-1-891077-20-3 & -21-0] and the Advanced Levels [ISBN 978-1-891077-22-7 & -23-4] of RHYMING WORDS consist of the same number of Card Decks--and, therefore, the same number of four-of-a-kind rhyming-word groups; their "Activity & Idea Books" are of comparable size. The Levels differ in their "difficulty," however: intermediate items illustrate common and alternative one-syllable spellings, while advanced ones introduce exceptional spellings in one– and multiple-syllable items.)
