The engaging puzzle types of Picture This Too! and Ways with Words--and other kinds of paper-and-pencil "diversions," lend themselves naturally to practice and progress in phonics, spelling, and word-level reading.  Instead of vocabulary categories, however, the content of phonicspelling Puzzles Tear-Off Pads is organized according to sound-and-letter correlations, phonics patterns, and spelling principles.

Each topic section begins with two pages of "Everything to Know (Now) . . ." information for puzzle-solvers at that level of language proficiency.  At all four levels of difficulty, it contains versions of the same copiously illustrated puzzle types, which progress from easy-to-do to challenging.  It ends with illustrated Puzzle Solutions and a Reference Word List.  

Both the Basic and Beginning Tear-Off Pads start with a section of Alphabet-Letter Puzzles:  Letter Lines, Letter Shapes, Letter Spaces, Letter Finds & Counts, and Letter Words--along with bonus pages of Letter Cards and Letter Formation practice.  All four Levels then offer 12 Puzzle Types--Word Find, Criss-Cross, Linked Words, Letter Choices, Word Maze, Switched Letters, What's Different? Meaning Categories, Letter Connect, Letter Jumble, Letter Blocks, Rebus Crosswords--that teach, practice, and assess mastery of Initial & Final Consonants and Vowel Sounds & Spellings.  Still in development are sections on "higher-level" topics: Syllables ("Closed," "Open," and in Multi-Syllable Words") at Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels; Word Parts ("Prefixes & Suffixes," "Word Roots," and "Compounds") at the two highest levels, and Word Groups ("Rhyming Words," "Homographs & Homophones," and "Near-Misses,") for advanced learners only.   

In their Tear-Off Pad format, puzzle pages are intended for one-time use, but they might also be reproduced for co-operative learning, review, or assessment purposes. On request, their creators may be able to arrange or reassemble the puzzle types, topics, and levels of difficulty for individual purchasers. These can be delivered online or in hard copy.
