Grammar SCENARIOS: English Grammar in Context 1, 2, 3 = Three Student Texts + Instructor's Manual

Created as the original “Grammar in Context” answer to tedious, disconnected exercises barely relating to real-life language, the SCENARIO series (Books 1, 2,  3) was based on various assumptions.  First, grammar (defined as phrase and sentence structure, patterns, and rules) was considered the fundamental basis of language acquisition among adult language learners, especially those with academic abilities and interests.  Second,  all grammar should be presented and practiced in context--that is, in meaningful situations that students want to understand and communicate about.  And third, boredom, tuning-out, and time-wasting are unacceptable in effective language teaching/learning situations.  Instead of doing dry, meaningless, manipulative exercises, participants must be constantly engaged and stimulated--by surprise, variety, humor, creativity, and more--in a lively, interactive group or class atmosphere.

The classic principles on which Grammar SCENARIOS 1, 2, 3 were originally based remain relevant and effective in today’s learning environment.  For each grammar "Topic" (such as The Verb BE, Questions & Answers, the Imperative, the Present Time Frame, Count Vs. Non-Count Nouns, Modal Verbs, the Past, and so on), a “Scenario” presents an amusing or realistic situation in which learners recognize and repeat or copy the relevant sentence structures.  After explanations, they apply their newly-acquired knowledge of patterns and rules to controlled—but always contextualized—exercises.  Finally, there are ample multi-level opportunities to show what they can do—in imaginative and effective relevant oral skills and writing.  A corresponding Instructor's Manual  for all three Texts includes Answer Keys; there's even a primitive copy of objective Progress Tests.

The original Grammar SCENARIOS 1, 2, 3 have long been "out of print."  Even so, for those that believe that back-to-basics, tried-and-true "antiques" can be valuable today, these these three classic Textbooks and one accompanying Instructor's Manual  can be "Reprinted on Demand" at your request.

(The New SCENARIO BOOK ONE: Beginning to Use English Grammar in Context [ISBN 978-1891077-93-7] was rewritten, reformatted, upgraded, edited, and thoroughly class-tested. Because its 284 pages contained too much content to be presented and mastered in a semester-long community college Grammar/Writing course, it was divided into two texts: The 154-Page New SCENARIO BOOK ONE-A (Intro + Chapters 1-10) [ISBN 978-1891077-48-7] and the 152-page SCENARIO BOOK ONE-B (Chapters 11-20) [ISBN 978-1891077-49-4].  But even a "Half-Text" offered too much "language-skills instruction" to be "covered" in class time alone. Therefore, two extensive Answer Keys & Teacher's Guides were created: 182 pages for BOOK ONE-A [ISBN 978-1-934637-35-7] and 154 pages for BOOK ONE-B [ISBN 978-1-934637-36-4]. These shrink-wrapped pages not only aid teachers, tutors, helpers, and learners during class or small-group meetings but also make the material "self-teaching," ideal for doing homework or independent study.)

(Only the first half of the New SCENARIO BOOK TWO: Continuing to Use English Grammar in Context [ISBN 978-1-891077-94-4] is available for purchase, individual use, and/or class testing. SCENARIO BOOK TWO-A (Intro + Chapters 1-10) [ISBN 978-1891077-48-7] has 176 pages, directed at High-Intermediate & Low-Advanced Levels of language proficiency. Its corresponding self-teaching Answer Key & Teacher's Guide [978-1-891077-94-4] is in development.)

(Redevelopment of the Advanced-Leveled SCENARIO BOOK THREE [ISBN 978-1-891077-TBD] is in the long-range planning stages.)
