Grammar SCENARIO Books One-A & One-B = Two Half (152- & 142-Page) Student Texts

Because the content of a 300-page book seemed "too much to master" in a quarter- or even semester-long academic ESL course, the New SCENARIO Book One was divided into two halves, entitled SCENARIO Book One-A and SCENARIO Book One-B.  These separate the fundamental material intended for High-Beginning coverage in the first half of the text from the more complex grammar topics introduced in the second half, which may be better understood by Low-Intermediate students.  If the texts are used separately, participants may have time not only to acquire the targeted structural grammar but also to practice it in activities that facilitate progress in oral and written language skills.

After the Front Matter, Book One-A contains an Intro and Parts One & Two (10 Chapters), which focus on "The Verb BE" and "The Present Time Frame."  Their "Scenarios" include "Meeting & Greeting," "Magic," "A Long Speech--and Different People," "The Neighborhood," and so on.  The two Review & Summary Chapters start with broad Contexts called "Dreams" and "A Party," designed not only to elicit all the relevant grammar in combination but also to give ample opportunity for related oral communication and composition writing.

Book One-B continues with Part Three (Chapters 11-15 on Nouns & Noun Markers) and Part Four (Chapters 16-20 on Other Verb Tenses & Forms).  One of its unique features is the inclusion of "connected stories" in some of its Chapters.  For instance, in keeping with its "Survival Scenario" in Review & Summary Chapter 15, there is an adaptation of the illustrated classic Robinson Crusoe; Chapter 16, The Simple Future, offers a "fortune-telling drama"; Chapter 20, based on "Gossip," outlines the events of a TV soap opera.

The two Half-Texts can be purchased separately or as a package.
