English Through Citizenship: THE GAME = Boxed Set of Two Game Boards, 288 Question & Answer Cards in Six Content Categories, Markers, Dice

In innovative, cooperative/competitive ways that are reminiscent of, but more significant than, "trivial pursuit" games, English Through Citizenship: THE GAME  presents, reviews, and reinforces much of the targeted content of "sheltered social studies," Citizenship, and "Americana" courses or lessons.  THE GAME challenges and entertains while teaching facts about American culture, history, government, and civics.   Reflecting language-teaching pedagogy, each Question & Answer Card displays three kinds of questions: Yes/No, Multiple Choice, and Wh- (Who? What? Where? When? etc.).  Because questions are recycled in these three forms and Answers are provided on Card Backs, the game is valuable for independent learning.  Even if game players have little pre-knowledge of its informational content, they will pick a lot of it up through cooperative or competitive play.

Each Game Set includes a colorful large Game Board and a reproducible small one (for two game versions).  Its six packs of 48 QUESTION & ANSWER CARDS each are color-coded into six Content Categories: Holidays, Symbols, & People; Geography; U.S. History; State & Local Government; the Constitution; the Federal Government.  Dice, game markers, and Instructions for Use are included.  There are suggested variations for individual, small group, and classroom situations, so any number of players can make use of the materials at the same time.

The Questions & Answers cover the same information as the reproducible objective tests in the JOURNEY THROUGH AMERICA Instructor's ManualDesigned for use in many educational contexts as possible, THE GAME tends to attract student interest with little urging on the part of their instructors.  They also tend to make up their own rules and procedures for play, resulting in more interactive, productive activity than the game creators even thought of.

[English Through Citizenship: THE GAME can be used independently of--and/or in conjunction with--the JOURNEY THROUGH AMERICA Student Text [ISBN 978-0-9627878-2-9].  If game players are really "serious" about learning its information, they might want copies of the Module Tests offered in the JOURNEY THROUGH AMERICA Instructor's Manual [ISBN 978-0-9627878-3-6]--to use to prepare for competition, for review, or for independent study.  Participants that have studied the ENGLISH THROUGH CITIZENSHIP, Beginning-Level Student Text [ISBN 978-1-891077-96-8]--especially its associated objective Tests--might want to "attempt" playing the game, too.  They will learn and have fun, no matter how much they know.)
